ar X iv : h ep - p h / 06 11 09 2 v 1 8 N ov 2 00 6 Production of ρ 0 L − meson pair in γ ∗ γ ∗ collisions

We have shown that the lowest order QCD amplitude, i.e. the quark exchange contribution, to the forward production of a pair of longitudinally polarized ρ mesons in the scattering of two virtual photons γ(Q1)γ(Q2) → ρ0 Lρ L factorizes in two different ways: the part with transverse photons is described by the QCD factorization formula involving the generalized distribution amplitude of two final ρ mesons, whereas the part with longitudinally polarized photons takes the QCD factorized form with the γ∗ L → ρ0 L transition distribution amplitude. Perturbative expressions for these, in general, non-perturbative functions are obtained in terms of the ρ−meson distribution amplitude.

We discuss the isospin symmetry breaking quantity ∆ ±0 ≡ Γ(B ± → ρ ± γ)/2Γ(B 0 → ρ 0 γ)−1, and the direct CP violation in B ± → ρ ± γ within and beyond the standard model. After showing that the leading-order calculation would be a good approximation in such models, we argue that measurements of these quantities would be able to disentagle physics beyond the standard model.
